Burr Oak Bend

CILTI's second largest property is Burr Oak Bend, a 128-acre site in Hamilton County.

CILTI acquired the first phase of Burr Oak Bend in August 2002.  This 52-acre parcel was the first land acquisition to close as a result of the White River/Guide Settlement following the fish kill of December 1999.  The site is a floodplain in a bend of the White River, and has been restored from an agricultural field to 31.5 acres of mixed hardwood forest and 12.5 acres of prairie.

In 2004, CILTI acquired an additional 68 acres of land in 3 different tracts to bring the total acreage of Burr Oak Bend to 120 acres.  This area includes an extensive intact forested riparian corridor along a high quality stretch of the White River.  Another 8 acres were acquired north of the north east parcel in 2005.

CILTI has been and will continue to conduct restoration work on 4 parcels, including prairie, forest, and wetland enhancements.  There are no trails on this property, however there is a small gravel parking area and an interpretive sign displayed on the first phase, located off of Riverwood Avenue south of 206th Street.  Click here for an aerial map of the site.
